Lesson: Chapter 19 — Current Electricity

19.2. Flow through a conductor 1 of 6

Question 1

Why does a metal conduct electricity well?

The right answer is the one marked above.

Metals contain free electrons. The electrons in the outermost shell of a metal atom leave easily and wander through the space between the atoms. Charged particles already free to move are what conducting requires.

Chapter 3 told you that metals conduct but never said why. This is the answer it left out.
