In that same reaction, what mass of carbon dioxide is added to the environment when 100 kg of haematite is reduced? (C = 12, O = 16)

The right answer is the one marked above.

82.5 kg. 3CO2 = 3 × 44 = 132 g and Fe2O3 = 160 g. So 100 × (132 ÷ 160) = 82.5 kg.

52.5 kg is the mass of carbon monoxide consumed (100 × 84 ÷ 160). Check that the mass balances: 100 + 52.5 = 70 + 82.5 = 152.5 kg.
