Lesson: Chapter 16 — Changes of Matter

16.3. Metals with air and water 6 of 7

Question 6

Which metals burn readily with a brilliant flame and turn into their oxides?

The right answer is the one marked above.

Sodium and magnesium. They react readily with oxygen when burnt in air and form the metal oxide.

Silver, platinum and gold do not become oxides even on strong heating. Copper darkens on its surface when heated, but that is not burning with a flame.
