Lesson: Chapter 14 — Continuity of Life

14.3. Fertilisation, pregnancy and birth 1 of 7

Question 1

Where does fertilisation take place?

The right answer is the one marked above.

In the upper part of the fallopian tube. The sperm swim up through the uterus to reach it, and one of them joins the ovum travelling the other way.

The uterus is where the embryo settles, about a week later and already sixteen cells or more — it is not where fertilisation happens. Assuming it is, is the commonest mistake about this whole sequence.
