Time in the air. Fibres make the seed enormous for its weight so it drifts; a wing makes it spin so it falls slowly while the wind pushes it sideways. Two solutions, one problem.
Buoyancy is what the coconut's fibrous husk provides, for dispersal by water — the same material serving a different agent. Neither structure sticks to anything, and neither protects the seed.
