Lesson: Chapter 2 — Photosynthesis

Putting the chapter together 1 of 3

Question 1

"Photosynthesis is a process that takes place only in green plants." Is this statement correct?

The right answer is the one marked above.

Incorrect — it takes place in any organism whose cells contain chlorophyll, and algae are not plants. This chapter defines photosynthesis by the cell, not by the organism.

Grade 10 already told you this, in the chapter on the plant kingdom: algae photosynthesise and belong to Protista. No animal photosynthesises, so “some animals photosynthesise as well” is wrong for a different reason.
