Lesson: Chapter 1 — Living Tissues

1.2.1. Epithelial tissue 1 of 4

Question 1

A student examining an animal tissue under a light microscope observed that it was situated on a basement membrane. Which tissue could it be?

The right answer is the one marked above.

Epithelial tissue. Sitting on a basement membrane is the first characteristic of epithelium, and no other animal tissue is described that way.

This is question 1(v) of the chapter exercise. The basement membrane is also how the tissue is fed, since epithelium has no blood supply of its own.

Answer the question to continue.
