Question 4
In aerial layering, what is done to the branch before it is wrapped in polythene?
The right answer is the one marked above.
A small ring of bark is removed and the place packed with compost and coir dust. Roots form there over a few weeks, and only then is the branch cut off and planted.
A cut made on the underside and buried in the soil is ground layering, used for branches near the soil. Treating a cut end with a rooting chemical is a cutting, and inserting a bud from another plant is bud grafting — neither involves polythene wrapped around compost.
