Question 6
An object thrown vertically upwards leaves the ground with 160 J of kinetic energy. Ignoring air resistance, what is its potential energy at its maximum height? (Mixed exercise, question 2 iv)
The right answer is the one marked above.
160 J, equal to the kinetic energy it started with. At the maximum height the velocity is zero, so all of the kinetic energy has been converted into potential energy. None of it goes anywhere else.
Answering 0 J confuses kinetic energy with energy in general. The object has indeed stopped moving, which is exactly why its store is now entirely potential.
