Flowering plants
Plants that produce flowers are called flowering plants. The sexual reproductive structure of a flowering plant is the flower.
Angiosperms
Seeds are produced inside the flower. Since the seed is always covered by a fruit, these are also called angiosperms.
Figure to be added
These plants are very well adapted to terrestrial environments and show adaptations for conserving water.
What gets a fruit?
| Gymnosperms | Angiosperms | |
|---|---|---|
| Flower | Absent | Present |
| Seed | Open to the environment | Covered by a fruit |
| Examples | Cycas, Pinus | Coconut, mango, grasses |
A fruit is a way not only of protecting the seed but of distributing it — the animal that eats the fruit carries the seed somewhere else.
