Lesson: Chapter 7 — Acids, bases and salts

7.1. Acids 3 of 3

Concentrated and dilute acids

Most of the acids in a laboratory store are concentrated acids.

Dilute acid

Mixing a concentrated acid with water gives a dilute acid of the concentration needed. An acid of low concentration is a dilute acid.

Strong is not the same as concentrated

Strong and weak say how completely an acid ionises. Concentrated and dilute say how much acid is in the water. Dilute hydrochloric acid is still a strong acid; concentrated acetic acid is still a weak one.
