Corrosive and sour

Bottles of concentrated acid carry the warning sign of figure 7.2. It says the chemical is corrosive.

Acids are corrosive

On wood, metals and cloth the acid eats them away, and on the skin it causes severe burns.

A sour taste

Think of the taste of lime juice: it is sour. A characteristic property of acids is their sour taste.

Never taste a laboratory acid

Acids used in the laboratory must never be tasted.
