Lesson: Chapter 6 — Human body processes

Cellular respiration 1 of 3

Aerobic respiration

Oxygen that has diffused into the blood reacts inside the body cells with simple organic compounds such as glucose, releasing energy. This is cellular respiration.

Respiration

Respiration is the process in which living cells oxidise simple food to release the energy needed for life processes. It is a metabolic process.

glucose + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water + energy

C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2O

energy is released

Aerobic respiration

Respiration that happens when oxygen is present is aerobic respiration.
