Atherosclerosis
In atherosclerosis, fatty deposits build up on the inner walls of the arteries, narrowing them and making them stiff.
Figure to be added
HDL
High-density lipoprotein: carries cholesterol away to the liver — the helpful kind.
LDL
Low-density lipoprotein: leaves cholesterol on artery walls — too much is harmful.
Angina
When the coronary arteries that feed the heart muscle narrow, the heart gets too little oxygen during effort, and chest pain follows. A complete block causes a heart attack.
