Blood pressure is the pressure the blood puts on the walls of the arteries.

Normal blood pressure of a healthy adult

120 / 80 mm Hg

systolic / diastolic

Systolic pressure

The higher value, when the ventricles contract.

Diastolic pressure

The lower value, when the heart relaxes.

It is measured with a sphygmomanometer, usually on the upper arm.
