Lesson: Chapter 5 — Optics

Seeing by light 2 of 3

Transparent, translucent and opaque

Materials differ in how much light they let through.

Transparent

Light passes straight through, so objects behind can be seen clearly: colourless glass, polythene.

Translucent

Light passes through but is scattered in all directions, so objects behind cannot be made out clearly: tissue paper, oil paper.

Opaque

No light passes through at all: a stone, a brick.
