Distilled water is added to 25 cm³ of ethyl alcohol to make 250 cm³ of solution. What is the volume fraction of the alcohol?

Volume fraction is used when both components are liquids or both are gases. For a solid in a liquid there is no sensible volume of solid to measure, so mass fraction is used instead.
